Founded in Lisbon in 2002 by five musicians from across the country, Quinteto À-vent-garde began to take shape in the chamber music department of Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, under the guidance of Afonso Malão. Then, it was supervised by Olga Prats and Nuno Inácio, with whom it achieved top grade at the end of the course. During these years in Lisbon, the quintet made master-classes with Felix Renggli, Christian Wetzel, Avedis Kouyoumdjian or Etienne Lamaison.
In May 2007, Quinteto À-vent-garde completed a specialization course with Hänsjorg Schellenberger at the Instituto Internacional de Música de Cámara de Madrid. As students at this institute, they also studied with Jacques Zoon, Eduard Brunner, Radovan Vlatkovic and Klaus Thunemann, as well as taking part in master classes with Maurice Bourgue, Jaime Martín, Karl Heinz Steffens and Hugh Seenan. During this period, they were also members of the Orquesta Siemens from Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía under the musical direction of Ralph Gothoni, Hänsjorg Schellenberger, Jesus Lopez Cóbos and Antoni Rós Marbá.
The quintet’s first concert took place in December 2002 in the Palácio de Independência, Lisbon, having been supervised by the composer Maria de Lourdes Martins. Since then, they played in some of the main concert halls in Portugal and Spain. The quintet played in Alcobaça, Minde, Lisbon (S. Luiz Theatre, D. Maria II Theatre), Oporto (Casa da Música – as soloists playing a piece by Paulo Rios Filho with Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa), Tarouca (debut of Auditório Adácio Pestana), Viana do Castelo (Sá Miranda Theatre), Oeiras, Madrid (Auditório Nacional de Madrid, Auditório Caja Madrid) and Málaga (Cervantes Theatre) and some of them were recorded by RDP (Portugal) or RTVE (Spain).
In recent years, Quinteto À-vent-garde has collaborated with the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (National Theatre, Lisbon), presenting various concerts incorporated into two Chamber Music cycles, with the themes “Europe in Music” and “3 Themes, 3 Concerts”.
In July 2004 and 2005, the quintet won the 2nd prize – of the Prémio Jovens Músicos RDP and in March 2007, was semi-finalist in the “4e Concours International de Quintette à Vent Henri Tomasi” in Marseilles.
